The MD2 cultivar is a hybrid pineapple that is produced from a breeding process between the Smooth Cayenne PRI hybrids 58-1184 and 59-443
Why is pineapple called MD2?
When PRI was dissolved in 1975, all developed hybrid seedlings were subsequently evaluated at Maui Pineapple Company. An exceptional hybrid selection “73- 114” was singled out from the project and it was later renamed MD2, in honour of Millie Dillard, the wife of the then General Manager of the pineapple company.
How do you plant a pineapple MD2?
It is easier to plan MD2 pineapple than other varieties. Usually, for the planting of normal pineapple variety, the best soil acidity is between pH5. 5 to 6 and planted under peat soil for optimum production. Furthermore, it needs to be grown on slopes between 2-6 percent.
